The LiquorPOS Sunset Is a Wake-Up Call for the Payments Industry

For more than 20 years, LiquorPOS was one of the most recognized names in liquor retail point-of-sale.
Thousands of liquor stores built their businesses around it. Many are still using it today.
Now, with LiquorPOS reaching the end of its lifecycle, thousands of liquor retailers are evaluating alternative software solutions.
How we got here
The story of LiquorPOS isn't unique.
Like many successful vertical software companies, it followed a familiar path.
2014 – LiquorPOS was acquired by Heartland Payment Systems as part of Heartland's expansion into vertical software.
2016 – Heartland was acquired by Global Payments, bringing LiquorPOS into one of the world's largest payment companies.
Over the following years, development slowed as larger platform initiatives became the priority.
Today, LiquorPOS is winding down, leaving thousands of merchants evaluating new technology and long-term partners.
This isn't about pointing fingers.
Portfolio consolidation happens.
Priorities change.
Large organizations have to make difficult investment decisions.
But the result is the same.
Thousands of liquor stores now need a new home.
The market has been consolidating for years
While LiquorPOS was becoming part of a larger payments ecosystem, the rest of the liquor POS market was changing too.
Companies like:
Bottle POS
Lightspeed
Scotch POS
have continued expanding through vertically integrated software and payment platforms or tightly integrated payment ecosystems.
There's nothing inherently wrong with that strategy.
But it has created a difficult environment for independent payment providers, ISOs, community banks, resellers, referral partners, and sales organizations.
Every time another liquor POS moves into a closed payments ecosystem, independent organizations lose another opportunity to compete.
We think there's a better model
At Liquor Bee, we're building something different.
Not another closed ecosystem.
A partnership ecosystem.
We aren't looking to compete with payment companies.
We're looking to partner with them.
We've built an economic model where strategic partners can win merchants using
Liquor Bee as the software platform while utilizing either:
Liquor Bee's integrated payments platform, or
A payment platform we've jointly aligned on through a strategic partnership.
Instead of forcing every opportunity into one model, we build long-term relationships that align incentives for everyone involved.
Software.
Payments.
Support.
Distribution.
Everyone rowing in the same direction.
There is more opportunity than people realize
The liquor industry is still largely underserved.
Thousands of LiquorPOS merchants are now evaluating replacement systems.
Thousands more are still operating on aging software.
This isn't just a software replacement cycle.
It's an opportunity to reshape the industry.
No ISO.
No reseller.
No software company.
No sales organization...
...is going to win all of those merchants.
But together, we can win far more than any of us can individually.
You shouldn't have to spend years and millions of dollars developing a liquor-specific POS to compete against the industry's largest players.
We've already built the operating system.
Bring your merchant relationships.
Bring your sales organization.
Bring your distribution.
Bring your payment platform.
We'll provide the technology, the support, and an economic model that allows everyone to grow within it.
Let's win together
The sunset of LiquorPOS marks the end of one chapter.
It also marks the beginning of another.
For the first time in years, thousands of liquor retailers are actively evaluating new technology solutions.
That's an incredible opportunity—not just for Liquor Bee, but for processors, ISOs, banks, resellers, software partners, and independent sales organizations across the industry.
Our vision is to build the operating system for liquor stores while creating enough opportunity for our partners to build meaningful, long-term books of business.
There has never been a better time to work together.
Let's build something great.
Let's earn these merchants' business.
Let's win together.
